Ecotourism Guide

Ecotourism encourages visits to natural areas and preserves. The goal is to do little or no harm to the environment, while supporting local culture and encouraging conservation of the area. Ecotourism guides can find work all over the world in a wide variety of environments, from rain forests to coral reefs to deserts. You don’t need a lot of formal education to work as a guide, but it helps to have a degree in biology, history, anthropology, or other subjects related to natural and cultural history. Good physical fitness, orienteering skills, Wilderness First Aid certification, teaching experience, and other abilities can make you a better guide and greatly improve your prospects and salary in this field. In some places, ecotourism guides are hired only from the local community.
